Urinary Disorders

The kidneys, bladder, urethra and ureter form the urinary system which is responsible for eliminating toxins and wastes from the body. Ayurveda describes 13 types of Mutraghata (urinary problems). Disorders can be as simple as a burning sensation while passing urine, an infection, or advanced issues such as kidney stones, inflammation of the kidneys or bladder cancer. Urinary irregularities may also be symptoms of underlying metabolic disorders.

Dr.Devkates Ayurvedic Clinic treats the root-cause of the urinary problem By Customised Ayurvedic medicines and Personalise treatment plan, specialized diets and lifestyle plans.

Urinary disorders are quite a common affliction that affects both men, women and children. The major problem that arises during urinary disorders is that it affects the ability of the body to flush out toxins efficiently in time.

The urinary system comprises two kidneys & ureters, the bladder, and the urethra. Under normal circumstances, the excess fluid and bodily wastes are efficiently removed from the body by the combined effort of the urinary system. However, this efficiency is affected when there is a urinary disorder and can impede the following critical functions:

  • Removal of excess fluid/waste in the body
  • The correct electrolyte level Maintenance
  • Secretion of hormones for blood pressure regulation

The ancient science of Ayurveda has been treating such disorders since its inception and we will be discussing about our Customised Ayurvedic medicines and Personalise treatment plan, specialized diets and lifestyle plans.

But before you accept any treatment, you have to get the ailment diagnosed accurately as there are primarily 4 types of urological disorders.

  • Prostate enlargement: A.K.A Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is very common in older men where the swollen prostate exerts pressure on the urethra and results in a frequent urge to urinate.
  • Kidney Stones: Small particles attach themselves to crystals in the urine and become bigger in size that can cause significant impairment of urinary function.
  • Urinary incontinence: Loss of bladder control resulting in urine leakage due to weak bladder muscles, weak sphincter muscles, overactive bladder, infections and diseases like Parkinson’s.
  • Urinary Tract infections: Bacterial or viral infection in the urinary tract can cause a burning sensation when urinating.

Signs you may have urinary disorders

It is recommended to drink plenty of water per day to avoid urinary disorders. Also, prolonging intervals between urination can weaken the muscles that help you to control your bladder. Urinary tract infections may remain undetected sometimes as you may not experience any symptoms outwardly every time. However, watch out for the following symptoms to understand if your problem could be urinary incontinence symptoms or a urine block arising from a UTI:

  • The urge to urinate frequently
  • The uncomfortable feeling that your bladder is still full, even after you have just urinated
  • Burning sensation or pain while urinating
  • Inability to pass the normal amounts of urine or pass urine completely
  • Discoloured urine. Probably due to blood in the urine
  • A strong pungent odour of the urine
  • Involuntary expulsion of urine when you sneeze or laugh
  • Involuntary & uncontrolled passage of urine, mostly minor leaks.
  • Urine dribbling all through the night and sometimes even day
  • Pain in the upper back, around where the kidney is located

Ayurvedic management of urinary disorders

In Ayurveda, the conditions affecting the kidneys and urinary tract are termed Mutravahasrota Roga and the ones affecting the urethra and bladder are known as Mutraghata. They are known to be caused by aggravated Vata Dosha and can be treated with the help of Mutravirechana(diuretics), which balance the downward flow of the Vata dosha to stimulate the flow of urine. Out of all the treatments available in Ayurveda, Panchakarma has a special place since it is the remedy for so many disorders.
